This was the first puppet cartoon released in Cinemascope.
Based on William Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Night's
Dream', this film was billed by its distributor as "the first
puppet kinescope in the world."

Director Jiri Trnka began work on this wide-screen feature in
1955. It was originally released without dialogue, relying instead
on pantomime, dance and music.

This special DVD contains BOTH the original Czech version in
the original language WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES, as well as the
ultra-rare English language dubbed version with Richard Burton
and other members of the Royal Shakespeare Company providing
the voices.

*** Please be aware that the English language print comes from a very old VHS tape and has the same imperfections and quality usually found on such videotapes. ***
