Joanna James (Valerie Bertinelli) is the extremely sheltered Daughter of a well to do, but overly strict and overprotective Millionaire father (played by; Peter Donat). For most of her life she was unable to cope with people, and the "Real World" in general . She was diagnosed as somehow "Brain Damaged", and her problems were made worse by never being delt with correctly by her Doctors & teachers.

When her Lemo is down for repairs, she needs a ride and calls a cab, possibly the best move she ever made. The cab driver ( Robert Desidcrio) is a struggleing english teacher / writer. Joanna leaves her wallet in his cab, and he is off to her address to return it. After spending some time with Joanna, he feels that she may have Dyslexsia, probably not Brain Damage as her previous misdiagnoses concluded, and he thinks he can help by tutoring her. This news brings great confusion & displeasure to her father, who for all her life has more or less controlled her , because of her inability to even read or write.

The film is a wonderful romantic comedy that saterizes social morals and the foolishness of parents over protecting their kids. The Chemistry between Ms.Bertinelli and Mr.Desario's Characters works very well. Peter Donat playing her father is very convincing and so is Ellen Geer playing Ms.Bertinelli's housekeeper. The only one that does very little but complain about the happenings between Joanna & her Cabbie friend is Carol (Shelly Long). She is little more than an annoying contrivence, who tries to play Mr.Desario's conscience. She does it quite well by being, honestly, annoying as hell!

You need not be a Valerie Bertinelli, or a Robert Desidcrio fan to like this movie, but it helps !

This is Honsetly one of the best 1980's TV Movies of it's kind..... Don't miss it..
