"You'll be sorry."
"Buyer beware."
"You bought Chinese junk."

Those are just three of what people hear from their friends after they bought electric bicycles, scooters, and cars without getting real information. "Real information" imho is not a "review" from an e-zine "journalist" who took a Vectrix for a 30 -minute ride.

Choosing durable and/or suitable electric bikes or scooters FOR HILLY AND WET VANCOUVER can be a nightmare! There are 15,000 manufacturers in China. Models change frequently. Many ebikes are not durable or suitable, and end up on Craigslist Vancouver (check it out now) after only
a few rides.

There are approximately twelve electric bike/scooter retailers in greater Vancouver. In my opinion, only a few of them have satisfactory after-sale warranty service. Some dealers will give you your money back if you're not happy, but many others won't. Do you know which electric scooter dealers to avoid?

Worse, some of them have an attitude that their
customers allege is an, "I-Own-Your-Wallet"
after the 6-month warranty runs out, that is
typical for Vancouver.

If you don't want to buy a lemon electric bike from an ebike dealer or reseller, check out my reviews on some of them (posted on the 'net) or please call Rob. I've owned more than 10 electric bikes and scooters (still own 4 now.)

Any potential buyer should also be aware that escooters that LOOK identical at different retailers are NOT the same, internally: They will have different controllers!

An Ebike FAQ will not cover the concerns and issues (listed below) for potential buyers that a potential purchaser will have to consider:

- What is the electric bike's real range, uphill, say up the Ontario bike street? (No, it won't be 60 kms., as the dealer claims.)

- Do you want "brushed" or "brushless" motors in your electric bikes?

- What is most economical in the long run, gel cell, NiMH, or Lithium Ion batteries?

- Can you tell is the torque arm is strong enough for downhill braking with regen braking?

- Is the electric bike relatively theft-proof?

- Which models have disappointingtly-thin inner tubes, and have lots of flat tires?

- How to get double or triple an electric bike's range without having to buy a second battery pack?

- If you live on the steep hills of Bowen or Salt Spring Island, what SPECIAL electric bike are out there for you?

- What saddle works to minimise Male Erectile Dysfunction and maximise riding comfort?

- What watts? What is the real wattage? Is that 500w peak watts or continuous watts output?

- What should you know about the EVT brand of
electric scooters ("motorcycles").

- Which large scooters have batteries that
last only 600 kms.

- Which Vancouver-area dealer(s) sell ebikes
with batteries that always bulge.

- What "stuff" can you do on your ebike/escooter
to make it much more durable, given our Wet Coast
weather.

- What's the latest word on the "side motor" scooters?

If you can't answer those questions, you probably need an ebike CONSULTANT, like me. I've organized 14 electric bike shows in Vancouver. Have 2 ebikes
and scooters, all heavily modified for better
durability and performance.

N.B. There are also custom-made ebikes and electric scooters that I can special order for your specific commuting needs. With proper guidance from me, you may be able to get a Honda Jazz scooter performance from an electric bicycle or electric scooter. Gasoline ("gassers") scooters can cost $400+ for their initial service interval, at 500 kilometers; in contrast, electric scooters (the good ones, anyway) shouldn't cost you anything in your first year's maintenance.
