A.K.A (Common Names): Mexican Heather, Medicine Vine
The Spanish name (Cancerina) comes from the plant's traditional use in Latin American countries for tumors. However, Mexican Heather has been used mainly as a urinary antiseptic and diuretic. It was long used to treat cystitis and inflammatory bladder conditions, as well as for kidney and bladder stones.
Historical reports also indicate that people used it for its internal cleansing properties. Mexican Heather has been known as a use for prostate support; as a gastrointestinal aid, for liver and gallbladder support; and for respiratory support, and wounds.
