Classified Details
This 3 gallon stoneware butter churn was made by Red Wing Union in Minnesota in the early 1900's . The two birch leaf design was used by Red Wing prior to 1909. They were produced without the Red Wing Stamp for Sears Roebuck (I have researched this item extensively). This elephant ear handle butter churn belonged to my great grandparents who came to Alberta from Minnesota in the early 1900's It is in very good condition with a very small hairline crack in the bottom of the churn which a family member used some wood filler to on the bottom of the churn to ensure that it did not leak ( see photo) This patch can easily be removed by someone willing to restore it. The hairline crack is very small but the person who repaired it obviously was not taking any chances. It has the original lid and what appears to be the original wooden dasher. ( My mother says that is the only dasher she saw her grandparents and her parents use) The lid has no cracks or chips and is stamped 3-4 . The butter churn stands 14.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches across.
Asking price is based on research and our family will accept bids on this butter churn if more than one party wishes to purchase it.
Would make an excellent addition to Red Wing collections as an obscure item as I have not found another with only the 2 birch leaf motif without the Red Wing stamp any where on line. PLEASE NOTE: THIS ITEM IS ACTUALLY LOCATED IN CAMROSE, ALBERTA AND SHIPPING AND HANDLING COSTS WOULD BE BASED FROM THIS LOCATION
