EDITORIAL REVIEW:
The Gulf war of 1991 highlighted America’s grim determination to safeguard democracy and save the world from another fascist attack at all costs. Moreover, it showcased America’s willingness to stand alongside and defend her business associates. Thirdly, the war showed the world how battle-ready Amrican troops were and how quickly and affectively they could be deployed when required.
This CD offers a splendid trek down memory lane to the deserts in the Middle- East where American troops won a resounding victory over Elite Iraqi Guards in a surprisingly short period of time. Masterful brush strokes from gifted artists have preserved forever impressions of the war - soldiers, tanks, planes and battlefields, while brilliant cameramen have done the same on roles of film. Rarely are you offered such a close up and personalized account of a war and in such a comprehensive manner as this. This is truly an inspired collection of images and documents, which explain why the United States was compelled to use force in the Gulf War.
I love this CD, because it cleared a lot of doubts that I had and also gave me a feel of what it was like to fly the skies with our pilots, sail the seas on state-of-the-art aircraft carriers and ride over the sand dunes in one of our powerful battle tanks. It also gave me a wonderful glimpse at how well American troops responded to call of duty.
If you are a history buff, a politically conscious citizen or a crusader for world peace, you must own and examine this fabulous CD!
The United States responded immediately by launching Operation Desert Shield. Just five days after Saddam's Iraqi Republican Guard opened fire on Kuwaiti territory, the US began deploying its forces. UN Security Council Resolutions 660 and 662 condemned Iraq's invasion and annexation and called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Iraqi forces. On August 20 President Bush signed National Security Directive 45, outlining U.S. objectives - which included the "immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of all Iraqi forces from Kuwait," and the "restoration of Kuwait's legitimate government to replace the puppet regime installed by Iraq."
When Saddam stubbornly refused to heed to warnings and deadlines, the US-led coalition launched air attacks on Iraqi targets. Ten days later the ground troops began pounding Iraqi defenses with heavy artillery. On the 27th of February, Kuwait was a free state once more and with allied forces having driven well into Iraqi territory, President Bush declared a cease-fire the following day.
This historic CD recounts through fabulous paintings and eye-catching photographs the commitment of US troops in defending democracy - even if it meant traveling thousands of miles and fighting on foreign shores to do so. |
