SEASON 1

1 PILOT
The Impossible Missions Force (IMF) must retrieve two nuclear warheads being kept in a hotel vault by a Caribbean dictator. Martin Landau "guest stars" as both IMF agent Rollin Hand and the dictator.

2 Memory
An IMF agent with photographic memory is inserted into a foreign prison in order to aid in the discrediting of a politically connected mass murderer. This is the only "regular-format" episode in which the IMF does not receive its instructions via a recording - Briggs receives printed instructions on a card instead - and as such is the only "regular-format" episode in which Bob Johnson's voice is not heard.

3 Operation Rogosh
When an Eastern European agent plans a biological attack on Los Angeles, the IMF must trick him into revealing the location of his mass-murder devices. They do so by convincing him it is three years into the future, and place him on trial for being an American spy.

4 Old Man Out Part 1
While the rest of the IMF team pose as a traveling circus, Rollin Hand goes into an "inescapable" prison in order to try and rescue an elderly dissident held captive there. The character of the elderly prisoner, a Catholic official, is overtly based upon József Cardinal Mindszenty, and his high-profile imprisonment by a totalitarian government in the Eastern Bloc.

5 Old Man Out Part 2
Continuation of previous episode.

6 Odds on Evil
The mission is to bankrupt the prince of a small country before he can use his funds to buy weapons; his weakness is gambling. To accomplish the sting, the team uses a computer to predict the winning number in a roulette wheel (winning number is displayed on a wristwatch), while also rigging a game of baccarat through the use of marked cards which can be seen with special contact lenses. This episode shares many similarities with Ian Fleming's Casino Royale novel published in 1953.

7 Wheels
Dan Briggs and his IMF team must "un-rig" an election in order to prevent a corrupt government from taking power. This episode guest stars Mark Lenard of Star Trek fame as an unscrupulous bureaucrat.

8 The Ransom
When a friend's daughter is kidnapped by a crime lord, Briggs calls in his IMF team to rescue her. This is the first of several episodes in which the IM Force conduct "off-book" missions. The team delivers a heart attack drug by tapping the water line of a hotel room and exploding the vial just as the target turns on the tap. This requires that an ambulance be called where the mark is taken to a hospital. In the hospital, the team switches bodies during an X-Ray session, using a specially built revolving table.

9 A Spool There Was
Rollin Hand and Cinnamon Carter pose as reunited ex-lovers in an unfriendly country in order to retrieve a spool of recording wire hidden by a dead agent. As a security dragnet closes in, the IMF team uses pre-recorded audio tape conversations to fool government spies and later helium balloons to confuse the whereabouts of the recording wire.

10 The Carriers
The IMF infiltrates an artificial American town located behind the Iron Curtain where enemy agents are trained to act and think like Americans. They discover a plan to introduce a bacteriological plague into the U.S. The concept of a simulated American town being used to train agents had previously been used in the Danger Man episode Colony Three and would later be used in the Alias episode, Welcome to Liberty Village. This episode also shares many similarities with Ian Fleming's On Her Majesty's Secret Service novel published in 1963. This episode guest stars George Takei.

11 Zubrovnik's Ghost
In this "haunted house" episode, IMF agents Rollin Hand and Barney Collier pose as investigators of the supernatural in order to find out why a scientist believes the ghost of her dead husband is telling her to go behind the Iron Curtain.

12 Fakeout
Cinnamon Carter romances the ill-mannered leader of an international narcotics syndicate in order to fool him into crossing the border into a country where American authorities can finally arrest him.

13 Elena
In a South American country, a female IMF agent named Elena (Barbara Luna) begins exhibiting paranoid behavior, and Rollin Hand is assigned to find out why before she is assassinated as a precaution. A romance soon blossoms between Rollin and his ward.

14 The Short Tail Spy
Dan Briggs, Cinnamon Carter and Barney Collier are tasked with protecting a Cold War scientist from two rival assassination bureaus determined to liquidate him before an important conference. For this mission, Cinnamon Carter is assigned to seduce an assassin in order to prevent the killing of the scientist. Briggs becomes worried that Cinnamon might be falling in love with her target.

15 The Legacy
In this "treasure hunt" episode, the estranged sons of Adolf Hitler's most trusted Nazi officers gather in Zurich, Switzerland, to locate Hitler's "lost fortune." IMF agent Rollin Hand infiltrates the Neo-Nazi cell whose members plan to uncover and use the latter $300 million legacy to launch the Fourth Reich. A trail of bizarre clues leads them from a bank trust account to a hidden microdot and, at last, to a remote cemetery in the Swiss countryside.

16 The Reluctant Dragon
Rollin Hand and Barney Collier must convince a scientist to defect to the West and join his wife in the United States. This episode guest stars John Colicos of Star Trek fame as a ruthless security official.

17 The Frame
The IMF team pose as caterers at a lavish get-together of crime kingpins, in an effort to discredit a gangster who has been having anti-crime elected officials killed in "accidents."

18 The Trial
Briggs poses as a would-be saboteur in order to orchestrate the downfall of an Eastern European secret police chief.

19 The Diamond
When the dictator of an African nation announces plans to sell the world's largest uncut diamond in order to fill his own pockets, the IM Force sees a chance to destroy him.

20 The Legend
Briggs and Cinammon impersonate a former Nazi and his daughter who are invited to attend the home of a one-time Nazi leader who is planning the creation of the Fourth Reich. This episode shares many similarities with Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious (1948) film.

21 Snowball in Hell
When the IMF learns that a vital component for a nuclear weapon is in the hands of an evil prison warden, it's up to Briggs' squad to get it back or destroy it.

22 The Confession
When the assassination of a U.S. senator threatens to lead to war between America and the Communist Bloc, Briggs and the IMF set out to prove the killing was actually orchestrated by another senator.

23 Action!
When the head of an Eastern European movie studio plans to release a film he created that allegedly shows American troops committing a war crime in Vietnam, the IMF has to prove to the media that the film is a fake. Cinnamon Carter receives the recorded instructions in this episode, the only time in the show's history that someone other than Dan Briggs or Jim Phelps ever received the briefing. The character of Dan Briggs does not appear in the episode.

24 The Train
The IMF team must simulate a train ride carrying a dying prime minister to a Swiss hospital, in order to convince the leader not to name a would-be dictator as his successor. Beginning with this episode, appearances by Steven Hill as Dan Briggs begin to be scaled back in preparation for his departure from the series.

25 Shock
When an American envoy is kidnapped and replaced by a disguised agent planning to assassinate a U.S. diplomat, the IMF in turn kidnap the enemy agent and replace him with Briggs in disguise. As Briggs masquerades as the assassin, the IMF simulate a psychiatric hospital environment to shock the whereabouts of the real envoy out of the enemy agent.

26 A Cube of Sugar
The IMF meets drug culture as Rollin and Cinammon infiltrate a prison to recover a kidnapped agent as well as a microchip hidden within an LSD-laced sugar cube.

27 The Traitor
Eartha Kitt guest stars as a contortionist recruited by Briggs to help discredit an agent who has defected to the enemy.

28 The Psychic
Cinnamon poses as a psychic in order to convince a tycoon that his life is in danger, leading to a high-stakes poker game against Rollin Hand. This was the final episode in which Steven Hill appears as Dan Briggs.

SEASON 2

1) The Widow (9/10/1967) – William Windom plays a heroin kingpin who has just made a record purchase he intends to unleash from an unnamed Asian country, but the team is asked to stop him at all costs.

2) Trek (9/17/1967) – The late, great Daniel O’Herlihy (Robocop) plays a man who steals some very rare gold, only to land up in a prison out of U.S. reach where its head (Mark Lenard from Star Trek) knows he stole it, knows where it is and wants to know how to get it. The IMF is asked to free him and recapture the gold. Michael Pate also stars.

3) The Survivors (9/24/1967) – Albert Paulsen returns as a different agent this season, one the IMF who is trying to kidnap the proper combination of agents to get a priceless, deadly formula. Another good show.

4) The Bank (10/1/1967) – The team has to stop a communist from taking over his own satellite country and turning into The Fourth Reich, as he is a secret Nazi. Plays better than it sounds and holds up well for its age.

5) The Slave (1; 10/8/1967) – The IMF battles white slavery by becoming directly involved in this cleverly-penned two-parter that has them traveling to The Persian Gulf. Percy Rodriguez, Sid Haig and Peter Lorre Jr. make up the many of the supporting cast.

6) The Slave (2; 10/15/1967)

7) Operation "Heart" (10/22/1967) – Michael Strong is a Stalinist-style chief of secret police ready top overthrow his government unless the IMF can stop him. Pernell Roberts plays the imprisoned doctor who may know these plans when the rest of the government there does not. Arthur Rowe co-wrote one of the more interesting episodes of this season here.

8) The Money Machine (10/29/1967) – Brock Peters plays an evil African financer going in for the kill unless the IMF can stop him from overthrowing a democratic government already having its own troubles. A very good show with some real twists that work.

9) The Seal (11/5/1967) – This all time masterwork of the series influenced the first Tom Cruise film as the team has to retrieve a 2,000-year-old jade figure that should go back to its country of origin, but a very wealthy and powerful business man played to perfection by Darren McGavin becomes one of their best adversaries. The statue is under one of the tightest security set-ups ever built, but it will take more than a team member in a cat suit to get it, so they train an actual cat!

10) Charity (11/12/1967) – Fritz Weaver and Hazel Court are an evil married couple who rob from the defenseless and poor, then give to themselves, partly by running illegal charities. When their activities cross the further line and threaten some unsuspecting millionaires who cannot be told outright about this, so the IMF has to intervene and get the stolen money back.

11) The Council (1; 11/19/1967) – Paul Stevens is a syndicate head and Vincent Gardenia surprisingly good in this two-parter about how the IMF is sent to break up their biggest operation by attacking their Swiss bank accounts. One wonders if a theatrical film release was considered for either of these two-parters.

12) The Council (1; 11/26/1967)

13) The Astrologer (12/3/1967) – Cinnamon pretends to be a lady who can see the near future as the IMF infiltrates another dictatorship, but this time, its leader is superstitious a bit and they intend to make that his undoing.

14) Echo Of Yesterday (12/10/1967) – Hans Gudegast, know known as Eric Braeden, plans to bring back the Nazis with the help of Otto Kelmann (Wilford Hyde-White playing a bad guy for a change, and well) who owns a huge munitions business and is ready to turn it over to Col. Marcus von Frank (Gudegast) to make this all possible. One of the better thrillers of this season.

15) The Photographer (12/17/1967) – Anthony Zerbe is in villain mode again as the title character, actually bringing in tons of spies into the U.S., then leash a deadly virus. Then the destruction of New York City is planned. Very interesting and John Randolph (Seconds) also stars.

16) The Spy (1/7/1968) – Joseph Campanella plays a traitorous captain who might be able to get the rest of NATO’s missile plans unless the IMF can stop him. They also want to recover the first part, which leads to a complicated plan, but once again, this is laid out well. Kate Woodville and Karl Swenson also star.

17) A Game of Chess (1/14/1968) – The IMF must stop a huge shipment of gold from going back to the USSR, so they turn to the country’s favorite game to foil their plans. Another interesting show that has aged better than expected.

18) The Emerald (1/21/1968) – Michael Strong stars (already?) as a different USSR figure, a deadly KGB type out to get the tile item, which has plans to devaluate the U.S. dollar contained within it. Very good and more like the outright tête-à-tête spy show you would expect.

19) The Condemned (1/28/1968) – Solid show where an old friend of Phelps is condemned to death and he gets the team to help save him. A season highlight.

20) The Counterfeiter (2/4/1968) – Edmund O’Brien is a man who uses his clinics chain to make counterfeit drugs, but his new scheme to replace a new wonder drug with fakes could kills thousands, so the IMF has to expose him without him knowing it.

21) The Town (2/18/1968) – Will Geer shows up in shades of John Frankenheimer’s Seconds as Phelps is kept against his will in a small town where he is marked for murder and told he had a stroke when he has not. Worth seeing for Geer alone.

22) The Killing (2/28/1968) – Phelps is set up as a fake target to get a top Gangster assassin in this decent show with its share of wit about it.

23) The Phoenix (3/3/1968) – East Bloc chairman Stephan Prohosh (Alf Kjellin) has been demoted to working in a museum, but in one of the many artifacts is a stolen secret alloy substance that he will use to regain power unless the IMF can stop his mad plans. Another interesting show.

24) Trail By Fury (3/10/1968) – The team goes to South America to help the fledgling head of a new democratic party stay alive and gain power, but one of his assistants (Michael Tolan as Santos Cardoza) is in prison and if he is seen as a snitch, will be instantly killed. Not unless the IMF gets in first. Sid Haig and Victor French also star.

25) Recovery (3/17/1968) – Bradford Dillman is a U.S. scientist who has defected and when two U.S. SAC bombers crash in USSR territory, he is the key to breaking the U.S. fail safe system unless the IMF can get here first. Another Cold War story that holds up well.
