We Are The World was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and recorded on January 28, 1985.
Lead vocals were sung in turn by 21 performers, including Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belefonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Kim Carnes, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Sheila E, Bob Geldof, Hall & Oates, James Ingram, Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Michael Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Al Jarreau, Waylon Jennings, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, Huey Lewis & The News, Kenny Loggins, Bette Midler, Willie Nelson, Jeffrey Osborne, Steve Perry, The Pointer Sisters, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, and Stevie Wonder.
'We Are The World' was released on Tuesday, March 7, 1985, and all 800,000 copies sold out within a few days; eventually over 7 million copies of the song were sold. It won Grammys for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.
Record has been play-tested and is in excellent condition with a good deal of wear to the album cover including heavy peeling to spine, and soiling. |
