Delaware artist Hermann M Dahl, born in Germany, came to this country at 13 and was raised in Baltimore. He was a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts, had studied with Philadelphia artist Ranulph Bye and had done additional work at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. He taught at the Maryland Institute as well as Baltimore Friends School and the Sidwell School in Washington, before coming to the Wilmington Friends School in 1956 where he was the art director for 10 years. He also taught printmaking at the Corbit-Calloway memorial Library in Odessa, DE. Mr. Dahl frequently exhibited his watercolor, oils and graphics at East Coast shows. Since coming to the Wilmington, DE area, he had given shows at the Warehouse Gallery in Ardentown, the Jewish Community Center, the Delaware Art Museum and the Center for the Living Arts at the Westtown, (Pa) school. Among his numerous group and one-man shows were exhibits at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the National Museum in Washington, DC. His work is also in collections of the Peale House in Baltimore and the Phillips Memorial and Corcoran Galleries in Washington as well as in numerous private collections. Mr. Dahl passed on May 1, 1978. This original watercolor on paper is 28 x 20 named "New Jersey Farmland".
