 | The serving bowl of the 1876 Cape Cod Collection is reminiscent of early American pressed glass called "Sandwich Glass." It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling and exquisite brilliance which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers.
Many of the detailed designs of this prized glass were produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works founded on Cape Cod in 1825. Other companies in the region competed, but the popularity of "Sandwich" pieces resulted in the name becoming a generic term for pressed glass.
This unique Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection was inspired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern. The collection name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and, Cape Cod, the area where Sandwich glass originated.

**Especially created to commemorate the Avon Centennial, this exquisite bowl is issued in limited edition to The 1876 Cape Cod Collection. In keeping with the tradition of dated collectibles, the Avon Centennial hallmark appears only on this special edition and will not be seen again on future productions.
The 1876 Cape Cod Collection had its start in 1975 with the wine goblet. Since that time, a virtual table full of distinctive, clear ruby-red glass pieces have been produced. From place settings to serving pieces, the tradition inspired by Early American "Sandwich" glass continues.
And now, more that ten years after the original design appeared, Avon proudly adds this Serving Bowl to the 1876 Cape Cod Collections...the centerpiece of the collection and your home.
