 | If you are considering wanting a JRT, please, fully read this very informative article about the breed at terrier dot com
Vital statistics: Jack Russell Terrier, female, spayed, NOT UTD on shots that I am aware of, approximately 16 months old, housebroken.
History: I received Daisy in December, on Christmas Day, from a very anxious pet owner looking to find another home "immediately". So, frequently, it seems people adopt these very sweet, cuddly, very manageable SMALL size puppies. When these very high energy breeds receive absolutely no behavior training as they grow, these 30-50 pound adult dogs are like cannonballs being shot. And, a nightmare for some. I had Daisy for a few days and believed I had found her a permanent home with someone with a fenced yard and a great sense of humor, both of which are really needed in this circumstance. That person's circumstances changed about 6 weeks ago and I was asked to keep Daisy for "just a few days" and March 30, I was told I would have to "find her another home or whatever".
This is what I have learned about Daisy's personality in the last 6 weeks. She is an alpha female. She does not get along with other female dogs unless the other female is very small and non aggressive. She does seem to get along well with male dogs (go figure :D). She is aggressive towards cats (and I have 4 so Daisy is confined when in the house to the kitchen area and she deserves much better). She is a very loving and loyal dog that will sleep with you and lay at your feet for hours. However, the moment you get up she is, also, at your feet wanting your attention. Daisy will bore easily and if left outside within a fenced yard without a companion play pal and/or the occasional check by a responsible pet owner, she will dig out from under a fence unless precautions are set in place. She craves and needs loving human companion interaction regularly. She likes the rawhide chew bones very much. She likes to play ball and frisbee. She likes walks with you. She loves to give kisses. Due to her lack of training, she jumps to get your attention.
Daisy would love to have a responsible, great sense of humor, patient person with the time, energy, desire to, and know how of training a high energy adult dog in, at least, basic behavioral commands.
A fenced yard is an absolute. A companion playmate would be ideal but not absolute. She does well on Pedigree small bites adult dry dog food.
I do not have the time, know how, or energy to learn how to train a canine so I can give Daisy a forever home so I am doing what I can do, for her. I want to be able to visit your home once. I will not let her go to someone who will make her exist in a kennel/crate. That is an animal collector and not a pet owner, IMO.
I have been very long winded for the purpose of trying to be as informative as possible and to discourage those that want to impulsively ask for her just because she is "cute", "want a dog", a trendy "JRT", etc.
Daisy deserves a loving, forever home and I will be patient in finding you for her ... please, feel free to ask any questions. | |
