Brazil at World Cup 2006
Carlos Alberto Parreira is a careful man. When recently asked who were the favourites to win the World Cup, he diplomatically responded: "Germany and Italy are as much favourites as we are."
Whether or not the Brazil coach secretly believes that is another matter. He may not be the one to warm to Brazilian superlatives but even he must believe that his team are the undisputed favourites to win the World Cup.
The truth is that while no South American country has won the World Cup on European soil since 1958 (surprise, surprise when Brazil won it), Brazil are the team that can buck a trend. Sceptics have also pointed to the fact that the Selecao have never won a tournament when dubbed as 'favourites.' That may be true but the fact that many have had to resort to almost superstitious explanations gestures towards how good Brazil really are.
A team containing Kaka, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Ronaldo -- or the 'Magic Quartet' as they are called -- is bound to be irresistible, but Brazil also have organization under Parreira.
Parreira coached the Brazilians to a World Cup triumph in 1994 with arguably less talent than the current side has. However, can the coach get all of his talent to play as a team? That is the biggest quandary facing Parreira.

As World Cup debutants they would have hoped for a kinder draw but they will doubtless relish the big stage.
Ghana's rise to power in Africa came quietly and with little warning. The Black stars had done little in Africa since winning the continent's Cup of Nations in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. Yet twenty-four years later they find themselves at the World Cup.
A large part of that credit goes to the order Ratomir Dujkov has imposed on the team and also the rise of players such as Essien, Appiah, Sully Ali Muntari, Matthew Amoah and Daniel Edusei.
How did Ghana get to the World Cup
Ghana topped a group containing South Africa. After making a stuttering start by losing to Burkina Faso, they defeated South Africa 3-0 at home and 2-0 away. Ghana rounded their qualifying off with a thumping 4-0 win over Cape Verde.
