Great Valley, 1794 - Gunkle's Spring Mill is quiet now, except for the steady creaking of the huge water wheel just out of sight. In a little corner away from the massive grind stones, the owner lights a small lamp by his desk and reflects on the harvest season just past. The new mill worked three shifts a day, two of them by candlelight, to grind the corn, wheat, and rye grown in the rich farmland of the Great Valley. Much of the flour was delivered to Philadelphia, Lancaster, and as far away as England. Michael Gunkle is proud. He built this mill himself. As he sits in the lamplight, little does he know that his mill will operate until 1941. "The Miller's Lamp" was painted by Richard Bollinger to preserve the beauty of this historic mill and to remind us of the wonderful heritage we share. Print is 32†x 15†Framed painting is 40 x 23. # 171/750.
