Unbending, Levi threatens to stop her visits if she gives Luke a journal from her sister, Levi's ex-wife. Levi doesn't want Margaret revealing the family secret that Luke's mother isn't dead. She ran off to become English like Margaret. Fearing Margaret will reveal the truth and turn Luke against him, Levi makes her visit miserable, hoping she will leave. Margaret endures for Luke's sake and because she hopes some day Levi might realize he loves her as much as he did years ago.
