 | | Lionel Barrymore framed etching in fantastic condition. Says "Fishing Nets" on bottom left corner and is signed Lionel Barrymore on bottom right corner. Has a paper on the back that says the following: "Fishing Nets" Original Etching by Lionel Barrymore, Reproduced in Talio-Chrome. For many years along the California coast, a lone figure would quietly set up his easel or sketch pad, beside an especially picturesque little harbor, or on a rustic weather-beaten dock. Quickly he would begin committing the scene to paper, for often he would have to leave his beloved waterfront and return to the world that knew him. The man was Lionel Barrymore, a man recognized everywhere as an outstanding performer on stage and screen, and a completely unacclaimed etcher of superb talent. In his role as Old Scrooge in Dickens' "Christmas Carol," and in his many other well-known portrayals, Barrymore pleased millions. In his role as the unobtrusive waterfront artist, Barrymore was interested in pleasing only himself. Following his death, Barrymore was again "discovered" by the public. His classic waterfront etchings are being acclaimed by the critics, and a generation that knows Lionel Barrymore only as a name it has heard in conjunction with the theater is seeking his fine prints and proudly displaying them as collector's items. "Fishing Nets," one of Barrymore's finest interpretations, is presented here in the Talio-Crome process. This reproduction method faithfully preserves the hand press artistry and the limited print flavor of the Barrymore originals. It is suggested that this print be displayed in a narrow black moulding, accented by a generous French mat. Fishing Nets - Story of the Picture." Frame measures approximately 18 inches wide by 14 inches high. | |
