Lessons on how to select an electric bike, bicycle, or scooter
ANECDOTE: In 1999, my life was affected by a book titled, "Divorce Your Car" written by a woman living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Because of her book, I got rid of my gasser car at the time and got some electric bikes and a scooter (popular with Google founders and Spielberg.) That was the beginning of my hobby of battery-powered transportation. In the small town in Michigan, population 1,500 folks, there were at least three electric scooters. The Currie Flyer scooter impressed me with its ability to climb up a fairly steep hill. Dr. Malcolm Currie, who designed these scooters, retired from designing army tanks and put his talent into zero-emission vehicles.
This is the rainy Wet Coast. If you are buying an electric scooter or ebike, be aware that there are 15,000 manufacturers in China. The seven Vancouver area dealers have many problems with their sometimes-fragile scooters, especially with our rain.
The good news is that the weather can be defeated. So can flat tires, and even dangers from cars and trucks.

That is a lot less than the cost of a bad electric scooter buy. Just look at the half dozen used electric bikes and scooters for sale in classified ads. Don't you wonder why a seller would be selling his/her ebike after only 3 rides? Or, why the seller only used the scooter for 35 kms., yet its a year old already? Unfortunately, the seller likely won't be telling you the truth, so don't bother asking. Right now, on another classifieds board, there is a seller offering a 1000-watt scooter for a low price. I would suggest that you stay away from that one -- why? I know.
