I, Patrick Clark, started doing insurance work the very first day of being in residential home building over 30 years ago. I was introduced into this field by my ex father in-law, Mr. Dale Wickenhauser who I still love and admire, he is departed now. Basically I was a wielder at the time and he was a contractor. He trained me on home construction and the insurance industry, and I continue to learn every day.
When your life is turned upside down by a fire or a plumbing pipe break in your home, things get mighty hectic very quick. Call my company Artisan Specialties when you have an insurance claim. REQUIREMENTS FOR INSURANCE WORK
The name and contact numbers for your insurance adjuster.
A copy of your insurance adjusters estimate on the damages to your property, and a signed agreement that you will use my company for the repairs.
Authorization for all insurance repair checks to be made out to Artisan Specialties. This way no one can cash a check without the work, and the Owner can not spend any of the money for none related expenses.
WHAT I WILL NOT DO WITH INSURANCE CLAIMS
Give out a FREE estimate for the damages on your insurance claim. Most insurance adjusters require three estimates for the repairs if the policy holder contests.
Negotiate with your insurance adjuster without signed authorization using Artisan Specialties for your repairs.
Jack the estimate up to cover deductibles for insurance claims.
Lie about the scope of damage.
Here is a quick story:
Owner contacts my company for a fire in his home.
The kitchen burnt. Repairs needed are; cabinetry, countertop, tile, drywall, painting, and carpets. He had his estimate from the insurance company and sounded sincere about my company doing the work, so I took a chance and started his proposal. After two weeks of getting the subs together, options on tile and everything else I was finished.
Understand this; an estimate from the home insurance adjuster may not include the profit and overhead for the contractor. His estimate from the insurance adjuster did just that. I submitted my estimate to the insurance company for all repairs, with my companies profit and overhead included the standard 20% for a job of this size.
A week later his insurance adjuster called and told me that he received a call from a check cashing company for verification of the check. The Owner signed his name and cashed the check.
The Owner never called back.
Why tell a story like that?
It is a true story.
Just to show how people look at using insurance claims. Some ask because they think I may be a high priced contractor, so they can get the average cost of the repairs of their home higher using three FREE estimates from different licensed contractors and submitting them to their adjuster. Then of course, they will use all those FREE estimates to shop around some more to try and make money on getting the repairs accomplished for much less.
I hope you look for a licensed professional home contractor when you have an insurance claim. Not some handyman a neighbor’s friend’s wife knows. If your looking to make money on your insurance claim, or have a contractor bid high to cover your insurance deductible, look somewhere else. If you're looking for an honest licensed contractor who will repair your home like new, and who puts his client’s needs first, look no further!
