 | Well the weather network is calling for frost later this week. As well as snow Oct 9th. So here are some handy tips to save your windshield.
Most people start the car, set heater to the windshield and crank it up high.
The fact of the matter is your glass only needs to be a few degrees warmer then the air temp. out side to clear off. Not to mention your vehicle will not give off heat for at least 5-10 mins anyway.
So having said that, here is what we tell people. When you start your car and set your heater. Set the heat selection only slightly in to the red, and direct it to the windshield. Turn the blower fan as high as you like. Once your windshield is clear, select the bi-level or floor setting as heat rises anyway. Then turn the heat as hot as you like.
If you go to a shop for a repair, and they tell you they need an hour to warm your glass before repairing you've gone to the wrong place. If you go for a replacement windshield and they let you drive away with tape on your glass, you've gone to the wrong place. Call me for more info, I'd be happy to explain it to you.
If you have a chip or crack on your windshield, what do you think heating that glass up will do? It will spread, chips are cheap to repair. We repair cracks up to 30" Also if you have a chip or crack, cover it with scotch tape on the out side of the glass. This will keep dirt out of the break until it can be repaired. Big or small we repair them all!!
