Synopsis:
Starved was a television comedy on the FX Network that aired for one season of seven episodes in 2005. Eric Schaeffer created the show as well as writing, starring in, and directing it, based upon his own struggle with eating disorders. The series was based on a support group of eating disorder sufferers. Its characters included those with bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating disorder. It was a comedy genre show in which the dark humor comes from adult humor in which the characters have several problems and mishaps. Starved made its debut on August 4, 2005 to mixed critical reviews. It was the lead-in of FX's hour-long Other Side of Comedy block with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. However, the shows mix of comedy and drama (with most otherwise comedic episodes ending in a depressing music montage depicting the characters all behaving self-destructively) ended up turning away many viewers and critics. It was placed behind Sunny before being ultimately cancelled in October, 2005, when FX picked Sunny over Starved for renewal.
Trivia:
New York Magazine called it the Best Show You Probably Never Watched. NBC used a clip from the second episode in "The Most Outrageous TV Moments".
