 | This is one of a limited number of complete sets of See your West prints, a series of natural-color views of the West, prepared by Standard Oil Company of California for distribution to the motoring public during the summer of 1947.
Excerpted from the foreword: "...it is presented to you in the belief that these natural-color prints, together with their descriptive texts, will serve to renew your appreciation of the matchless beauty of our great Western outdoors, and to foster the pride all Americans feel in its immensity and grandeur.
If an examination of these pages awakens a desire to take to the open road and visit - or revisit - some of the region's multitude of beauty spots, there to partake of the peaceful tranquility of nature's solitudes, our purpose will have been secured".
This leather bound book(leatherette) contains 54 vintage pictures from fifteen Western states, British Columbia, Hawaii, and Alaska. Some of the scenic views include:
Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach, Hawaii
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
White Sands, New Mexico
The Oregon Coast
Santa Barbara Mission, California
Lake Tahoe, Nevada-California
Also, there are thirty-six eminent authors who provide their own personal insight into each of these naturally beautiful places, along with historic and current facts about the location.
This book is good condition. The outer leather covering is also in good condition, with the exception of a small tear on the upper and lower corners of the spine of the book. On the inside, all the pages are in crisp condition. There is a very tiny slit on the bottom of the first couple of pages. Overall, the book was kept in good condition.
