Rare ORIGINAL 1990's "Historic Limited Editions" issue of the '1935 Goudey Babe Ruth baseball card that never existed.

Authorized and signed by daughter Julia Ruth Stevens and numbered 342 of 714

This item is framed in ASH--the same wood that is used to make baseball bats

As you may be able to read in the signed letter at the bottom of the photo on the front, "The Babe" retired after the 1934 season. The Goudey Gum Company had already taken their images and had prepared their "issues" for the upcoming season (all companies did this until the late 70's or early 80's). But, because "The Babe" retired, the displayed 1935 Goudey Babe Ruth card was never issued.

This limited edition of 714 (corresponds to the number of Home Runs Babe Ruth hit) was produced in 1990--or shortly thereafter. Each item is slightly different in that the story on the back corresponds to the edition number.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BABE RUTH AUTOGRAPH ON THE GOUDEY CARD IS A FACSIMILE. That is the actual card (#R-309-2) that would've appeared in the 1935 Goudey baseball card set. The actual autograph herein is of Julia Ruth Stevens, at the bottom front.
