Chaga
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a wild mushroom that grows on trees in the northern hemisphere, most notably the birch tree. Chaga tea has been consumed for centuries throughout this region. Numerous compounds have been isolated from the chaga mushroom that show promising medicinal benefits. The most notable constituents include:

Antioxidants: chaga has been shown to contain extremely high levels of antioxidants, chemicals which eliminate
harmful free radicals from the human body (Cui et al. 2005) .Betulinic Acid: betulin in birch trees is converted to betulinic acid by chaga and has been isolated from the mushroom’s tissue. Betulinic acid has been found to kill certain types of cancer cells (Müllauer 2011).
Sterols: important organic molecules such as inotodiol, which is a known anti-inflammatory (Ma et al. 2013).
Phytonutrients: over 200 chemicals with disease preventing and protective properties have been identified in the chaga mushroom. The most notable include: superoxide dismutase, beta glucans, saponins, melanin, amino acids, germanium, polysaccharides and triterpenes.Vitamins: chaga also contains many important vitamins and minerals.
Laboratory studies have revealed medicinal potential in the areas of cancer therapy (Mizuno et al. 1999), immunotherapy (Kim et al. 2005), and as an anti-inflammatory (Park et al. 2005). Chaga typically grows slowly in cold habitats and wild chaga has been shown to contain a much more desirable spectrum of medicinal metabolites than the cultivated variety (Zheng et al. 2010).
