Here is a very impressive Afghanistan (Afghan) lapis lazuli (lazurite) where the rough was mined from the renowned Lapis-lazuli Mine at Sar-E-Sang in the Badakhshan Province (also known as Badakshan or Badahsan), Afghanistan. This lapis gem rough has a top royal blue color, a superb face up and very gemmy eye appeal, and is a very spectacular blocky piece ready to cut into some valuable gems or a small carving. This gem rough does have some calcite visible to the naked eye and very lightly sprinkled with a touch of pyrite! -- THIS MATERIAL WAS MINED AT THE RENOWNED LAPIS-LAZULI MINE AT SAR-E-SANG LOCATED IN THE DESOLATE & TREACHEROUS VALLEY OF KOKCHA, WELL KNOWN FOR ITS TOP BLUE LAPIS, ALONG WITH THE PRESUMABLY EXHAUSTED DARREH-ZU MINE ALSO IN THE THIS DESOLATED VALLEY. WE WERE THEIR YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS MUCH CALMER THAN IT IS TODAY AND IT IS EITHER VERY COLD OR VERY HOT ALONG WITH BEING VERY TREACHEROUS, BUT WE DID GET SOME VERY TOP LAPIS WHILE WE WERE THEIR. -- Would make a great piece for a lapidary as myself to cut into some valuable cabochons for a jewelry piece or just add to a gem & mineral collection!
