Lotte Eisner in her book "The Haunted Screen" wrote:
In German films the street crammed with snares an pitfalls, which appear to have no relation with reality - especially at night, with its deserted, treacherous corners, its thundering traffic, its spluttering gaslights, its electric signs, its car headlights, its asphalt gleaming with rain, the lighted windows of its mysterious houses, and the smile of its painted prostitutes; it's the lure and enticement of all poor devils who, tired of their dull homes and monotonous lives, are out for adventure and escape.

In the film entitled Die Strasse, by Karl Grune, the street plays a more complex role, and it enters directly into the action. We first see it as a luminous temptation from a middle-class dining-room, an invitation cast through the window by the lurid life outside, in the form of light-rays wavering in the gloom and printing a furtive lace-pattern on the ceiling, provoking longings in Eugen Klopfer, the meticulous bourgeois.
Then outside, the giddying swirl of impressions makes hesitant feet unsteady, rather as in Murnau's Phantom; adventure slips from one's clumsy grasp. The fascination of the object comes in to play: an optician's sign is transformed into the eyes of an enormous demon. A shopfront is a mirage that reflects at the same time an ocean liner promising escape and the equally promising silhouette of an enigmatic young woman. This perpetual mirroring on glass of desired objects or persons is also found in Fritz Lang's M and The Woman in the Window(1944) and Pabst's Die Dreigroschenoper.

1. Because DVDs can be easily copied, and questions of quality are so subjective, all DVD sales are considered final. In other words, we do not want individuals purchasing DVDs, copying them, and then returning the DVDs for their money back.

2. We do our best to offer the finest quality transfers currently available. Customer agrees there are no refunds for video and/or audio quality concerns/issues.

3. On rare occasions, a disc may be defective due to a technical issue during manufacture. Testing is done to eliminate this possibility, but it still may occur. In these instances, we will replace the offending disc at no charge. The following are not considered defects (this list is by example and not meant to be exhaustive):

(a) DVD/Blu Ray Player issues
(b) DVD/Blu Ray player compatibility issues
(c) Mishandling by the user
(d) User does not like the movie or its contents, the previews, subtitles translation, etc.
(e) Non-receipt of an item where valid tracking methods or other credible evidence establish delivery (or in transit), or customer has provided false or an incorrect ship to address.
(f) Scratches on disc(s). DVDs may become dislodged during shipment.
