American Elm Vase

This is a small, graceful natural-edge vase turned from heavily spalted American Elm. The grain is a beautiful combination of soft light browns in a broadly symmetrical pattern with radiating grey shading. It has a very thin (approximately 1/16th inch) natural edge with tight bark on the rim; the bark is not completely continuous, but was chipped away at several small locations during turning. A number of small infilled beetle boreholes are present along one side of the rim.

This delicate vase is approximately 5 by 7 inches wide (an oval lip) and 4.5 inches high. It is finished in natural Danish oil and then buffed and waxed to a soft satin finish.
