Germany at World Cup 2006
Jurgen Klinsmann's charge of Germany has received mixed responses. While the Germans had a credible outing at the Confederations Cup, they have failed to show the public anything special. Indeed, many have even questioned whether Klinsmann is the right man to lead the country to a World Cup on home soil.
One of the exceptions that many have with Klinsmann is that he is based in California. Many have questioned how committed a coach can be if he flies back to the United States frequently.
Costa Rica at World Cup 2006
Costa Rica are no strangers to the World Cup having qualified twice previously. A spot in the 1990 World Cup second round holds the fondest memories for the nation and current coach Alexandre Guimaraes was a player in that historic side.
Though the Ticos play with flair and heart they are considered a lightweight team on the world stage and being placed in a group with hosts Germany will do nothing for their bid to get out of their group.
On their day, however, Costa Rica can beat Poland and Ecuador and if Guimaraes' side can get a point off Germany in the opening game of the tournament, then the team may well reach the round of 16.
It will take a heroic effort but Costa Ricans harbour a lot of enthusiasm for their national team.
How did Costa Rica get to the World Cup
Stuttered through the first stages of qualifying against minnows Cuba and Honduras. However, once Guimaraes took over they defeated the likes of Trinidad and Tobago and USA.
