Recorded at Uptown Studios, Auckland, New Zealand.
OMC is the nom de guerre of Pauly Fuema, a former Maori gang member whose debut album is an interesting cross-pollination of musical genres. Like Beck, OMC (which stands for Fuema's defunct former group Otara Millionaires Club) paints with vivid aural colors, whether it's the ripe mariachi trumpet that shows up on the title track or the country-flavored dobro coupled with a Naughty By Nature-style drum machine on "Breaking My Heart." The opening track "On The Run" finds Fuema using his gang-banging background for song fodder, rapping over twangy, New Order-ish bass. French horn and gospel-flavored female vocals find their way into the mix on the hopeful "Land Of Plenty." Basking in the multi-cultural atmosphere of the 90's, OMC continues the quirky musical legacy of skewed pop left by fellow New Zealanders Split Enz.

Editorial reviews
8 (out of 10) - ...[Pauly Fuermana] invents a hybrid as varied as Beck in 1996, as unstudied as reggae in 1971, and so pop that dour mid-'90s U.S. radio might not know what to do with it...
Spin (03/01/1997)

...comes across as a South Seas version of Beck--laid-back, surreal, in love with melodies that don't draw on the usual sources....a natural sense of social satire...
Musician (06/01/1997)

4 Stars (out of 5) - ...strong rhythms and instantly appealing hooks, with steel and Spanish guitars, violins, saxes and Latin brass adding unusual musical colour....vivid, offbeat images in a half-spoken, half-sung style...
Q Magazine (12/01/1996)
