Here is a very fine & very highly prized pink kunzite mined from the Sakavaiana Mine, Monrosonoro Area of the Ampandramaika-Malakialina Field in the Antananarivo Province of Madagascar. This gemstone has a very impressive pink color with a remarkable cut, superb luster that will dazzle you many times over. Kunzite (colored by manganese) is the pink, pink-violet, & lilac pink variety of the Spodumene Species, along with bright emerald green variety Hiddenite (colored by chromium). Kunzite is strongly pleochroic, meaning there is a color intensity variation when the crystal or gemstone is orientated (shifted), other words describes a gem that appears two or more different colors or shades when viewed from different directions. The top and bottom of the crystal reveal the deepest colors and knowledgeable gem cutters take advantage of its effects. Due to kunzite's cleavage, splintery fracture and strong pleochroism it is considered a real lapidary challenge. The reason why the cut assumes a larger than usual value factor. However, its lovely pink color makes kunzite an attractive and most desirable gemstone. Most of the world's supply was traditionally obtained from granite pegmatites in Brazil, although more recent discoveries in Afghanistan and Madagascar have stimulated renewed interest by providing new sources of gem quality material. This truly rare gem would make an excellent gift to that someone special, or an addition to a collection. Excellent size for a ring or even a pendant. This gem runs no less than $40/ct for this color, cut, clarity & carat weight from a jeweler or gem shopping network. Guaranteed around $230 market.
