62. Carpet Cleaning Business

You can start one of the smallest carpet cleaning businesses, and grow it into one the biggest carpet cleaning businesses nationwide! There is no limit to what you could do; working for yourself, and having others clean the carpets for you, after you first do it yourself. There are several types of carpet cleaning systems out there, you can use. Portable and mounted are the most typical types of carpet cleaners. Also, hot and cold, steam cleaning.
You can start with a small janitorial size, carpet-cleaning machine, that you can load, right into your truck, van, or even car, and start cleaning carpets right away. If you want to learn some carpet cleaning basics, before you go it alone, you could easily get a job with a carpet cleaning company, and work there for a couple of weeks, cleaning carpets, and learning some trade secrets you can put into your own business later.
You should have nice signs on your vehicle, to let people know how to get ahold of you for more business. When your at a job for a couple of hours, your auto will be outside advertising for you, since the neighbors will know your customers carpet, and their neighbors carpet, is being cleaned, they just might call you, since they have already seen you once before in the neighborhood.
You can target apartment complexes, condominium projects, mobile home parks, and more. By putting up fliers in all the laundry rooms, since they usually have a lot of people come and go and have time to read the bulletin boards while they are there. Lots of people expect to get their rental deposit money back from landlords, and want to turn their place in as clean as they got it, and usually need to clean the carpets too. Other people don’t even want to clean before they move out, or they could of even of been evicted, or just moved out in the middle of the night. That is where you target the apartment managers, for your repeat business. Send them a flier saying you clean carpet, and you will give them a discount if they give you them on a regular basis.
Later you can get bigger, more powerful machines, that you only need to bring the hose inside. Later, as you grown your business, you can train others to clean the carpets, and you can spend more of your time advertising for more carpet-cleaning customers and make your business even bigger.

63. Shopping Cart Collecting Service

You can start your own business, and work for yourself, and set your own hours in this business. As your own business owner, collecting grocery carts, from all over town, and returning them to the stores that, usually, have their name on the handlebars, or somewhere else on the shopping cart. Grocery stores, supermarkets, department stores, home improvement stores, and other, spend lots of money buying grocery carts, and they hate to lose them. It’s cheaper for the store, to give you money for each cart you return, rather than having to purchase new ones, to replace the lost or stolen ones. Also, stores have to have the shopping carts, so that customers will buy more items, and put it in the cart, so stores have to have the carts available for customers.
Some customers like to take the shopping carts home with them, and then just leave it on the corner, or in a parking lot, or alley somewhere, and will never return it back to the proper store. That is where you come in, with your grocery cart collecting service. You can drive around, and pick up those unsightly shopping carts that are just tossed around, and left just about everywhere, and return them to the store for a price, for each one you bring back.
You can negotiate with the many stores in your area, for prices you can get from them, for collecting, and returning their shopping carts back to them. You would need a truck, or a trailer, to put the shopping carts on, as you drive around and collect more of them. How many times have you driven around town, and seen empty shopping carts just parked on the corner? You can make a good living contracting to pick up abandoned shopping carts with the many stores that use them.

64. Concrete Cutting

You can start your own business, and be your own boss, as a concrete cutter. Concrete is usually cut, by big powerful hand held cutting machines, with diamond tip cutting saw blades, that are portable, and you can carry in a trailer or back of a pick up truck.
Lots of homeowners and construction people need concrete cut with a straight line, and don’t usually have their own concrete cutting machine to do the job. Someone remodeling their driveway may want to cut a section out with a straight line, that is where you can come in, and offer them your concrete cutting services. You can look for new concrete cutting machines on the internet, and you can also look for used machine in heavy equipment catalogs and magazines, or also online. You can rent a machine from equipment rental stores, but it would be cheaper to buy your own, as soon as you can afford to.
You can contact people in the construction business, like cement workers, concrete pavers, bobcat and dump truck owners, etc..., and let them know you are in the concrete cutting business. You can offer them a commission for any jobs they send your way. Make sure you have nice signs on your vehicle so customers can call you when they see you out cutting concrete on a job. You can market and grow your business so that you have someone else running the concrete cutting machine, while you’re getting more jobs. Later you can add services like concrete coring and drilling.

65. Handyman Service

You can start your own handyman service business and work for yourself, and work when and where you want to work. if you’re an average, or above average “do it yourself” type of person, when it comes to working on homes. If you have the basic knowledge of understanding how plumbing, electricity, construction, landscaping, roofing and general homes repairs are supposed to be done, then you can start your own handyman service business. If you’re the “Do It Yourself” type individual, you might like being in business being a handyman.
Even if you don’t know the basics about simple home repairs, like changing a toilet, water heater, sink, or faucet. Or, just replacing a bad sprinkler head, or underground water line break, or a home that is in need of a paint job, or just an old front porch, that needs to be fixed back up to new.
You can learn lots of things quickly, if you go to any home improvement store, bookstore, or local library and read some of their “how to books”. You can find so many things on how to fix stuff around the house. Most fix it yourself type jobs, are standard procedure, when it comes to fixing them with directions from a book. Each job will be a little bit different, and you surely don’t want the customer to see you reading a book, that would be embarrassing!
For example: If you replace a broken water heater in one house, you can do another house just about the same. It will be pretty much the same, but not exactly the same, but after you do it once, you should have a knack for it. If you have the basic knowledge, for understanding how a water heater works, and where the water lines should be hooked up to, and if it’s either, gas or electric, and you can hook the water heater up with no problems, I’m sure you can do almost any hot water heater replacement job.
As a handyman, you don’t need to be an expert in everything. For example: you might know how to change a light fixture, and run new outlets to a new place you want to be able to plug in electricity, but you might want to leave the more complicated stuff, like circuit breakers and other dangerous jobs, to the electrician experts. As long as you are honest with all homeowners, when they show you something that needs to be fixed, you can be honest and let them know if you can do it, or if you can’t. You are a handyman, which means you can tackle most all, regular jobs, which need to be done. You don’t have to be an expert in everything, and rebuild them a new house from scratch either, to succeed.
Lot’s of homeowners are just to busy, or don’t know how to do basic home repairs themselves. Most people call someone to come and fix something when it breaks, and they just want it fixed. So they can get back to their lives. You can offer your services to many customers. You can make up a flier, and put it in places where people 55 and over usually live and socialize, they are good candidates for home repairs, and handyman service. You should be fair in your pricing, do not take advantage of older people. When you find a complex, like a mobile home park for example, that requires everyone to be 55 or over to liver there. In California, there are all kinds of places you have to be 55 or older to liver there, mobile home parks, and more.
If you start working in one of those types of places where mostly senior citizens are, and do a good job for them, at a competitive price, you can get a lot of jobs and make everyone happy. Most of these senior citizens have already retired, and they are home most of the day. They take walks thru their neighborhoods, and when they see a truck working on something, they usually stop and notice it, because they are not in a hurry any more, and they have the time to talk and chat. If your around, they will walk over up to you usually and say hi, and talk to you. Later, they will ask you to fix something for them, since they have seen you around already and have spoken to you also already. So be really good with older folks, and you could turn your handyman business into a nice living. You should also have nice signs on your vehicle to get extra jobs. You can advertise in small newspapers, and make up some fliers and put them all over neighborhoods.
To get business quickly, you can make up your flier, put it inside small clear sandwich baggies, include a few stones or pebble for weight, and include your flyer. You can drive around the neighborhoods you would like to work in, and slowly drive around and toss each flyer into all the driveways as you drive around slowly. You will get calls quickly for work, when you do this system.

Make sure you have nice signs on your automobile, so you can get extra business that way also. You can drive around to houses that have real estate signs, saying, the property is for sale. When it has a for sale sign in the front yard still, that usually means it has not sold yet, and you can be the one to do a home inspection for the new owners. When a potential buyer comes up, it will need to be inspected by someone, it might as well be you. You should leave about 5 or 10 business cards at each house, as you would do better and get more calls, as many real estate agents visit a single house each day, showing potential customers all their listings.
